I am very afraid of data abuse and security. Worldwide data such as credit card information, customer information and medical records have been mislaid in public places, stolen by hackers from a secure data base or even sold by employees. Customers and Government should demand tighter restraints on data control. I believe that a system of control like the DIN in Germany would help a lot to improve the situation.

Laptops that are lost are the biggest problem for lost data. For a start, people need to act more responsible. Otherwise they’d lose the trust of their employers and the public.

I am afraid of identity theft, now that I’ve heard the story of a former employee, who used his boss’s social security number and falsified signature to buy a car, run up in credit card debt, and make other purchases. Most of the companies accept proof that the person never lived in the state where the purchases were made and was in fact not the person who signed any of the contracts. But some companies, however, refused to accept the attorney’s documentation, and can therefore ruin a person’s credit over a long period of time. That’s the worst thing that can happen to you, nowadays - identity theft!

Yes, I'm very afraid of the data abuse. Recently after having done with my B.E (Mechanical Engineering), I had posted my Resume on some of the "JOB PORTALS", and after a month or so I started getting calls from Insurance companies, Banks, Telecom Service Providers (about their policies and offers etc.). Now the list won't end. I even got useless job offers, which literally didn't have anything to do with my qualification. And mind one thing: the job portals on which I had posted my resume are the most renowned and most popular job portals in India!

Well, we live in the technology era, and having to deal with data safety is truly challenging… To me, it is so essential at any level to respect everybody's private data. Huge firms always point out on their web pages that they do care when it comes to safety of our being connected to the internet - but the question is: why is my e-mail box jammed with 'spam' letters? How come these spammers come across my contact details? Hence am I entirely dedicating my personal info to the world? I am left to wonder. So there is need to keep our data saved from responsible authorities. Otherwise we are losers in the long run.
